Virtually every Retailer we have ever Mentored has had stock problems, things like too much old stock, too limited a range or even too diverse a range and perhaps the most important problem of all, too many fast-sellers 'slipping through the cracks' and not being reordered quickly enough or even not at all! Very often there are literally tens of thousands of dollars in fast-sellers going begging from each and every store!
All of the above problems can be rectified by automating as much of the ordering process as possible. Do you have your own software system that links you to all of your members, so they can order directly from you and even set up min max levels for automatic replenishment? Can you auto release catalogue stock by tier ranking, (big store gets more than little store), and even announce new release lines direct to members?
Needless to say, you would only automate things like branded products that demand a minimum range and especially replenishment of their fast-sellers. You would still allow members to determine which demographic specific lines they would like to manually select. But even those who make a lot of their own product, (Jewellers for example), should be able to instantly look up availability of the components they need to do so, and therefore provide instant quotes to the interested party standing in front of them, knowing the parts are available, or at least how long it will be before they become available.
Allowing 'LIVE' stock levels to be available to your members also means they can take orders for lines they don't usually carry, especially those upmarket lines they may be wary of ranging. This alone is a great tool for members who are considering growing their range but don't want to invest the money, you could provide them with an 'upmarket' range catalogue for them to show interested parties and sell from. The more sales they get through this method, the more likely they will then invest on physically ranging them in store!

Sure, you could still visit stores, but now you can prioritise by visiting those that showed interest first, followed by those that previously ordered the most, (and frequently), and so on.
Many Retailers also get tied up in the day to day and can often overlook replenishing what have been proven good sellers for them, this is where you come in. Wouldn't you like to be able to easily determine which of your best clients is starting to slow down their orders and in particular has not keep up with their usual high turnover of your best sellers? A simple phone call later and you have done both them and you a favour, by getting that 'top up' order in place.
